Government PE & Sport Funding
The government has provided additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Sports Grant 2019-2020
This year, Puriton Primary has been allocated a Sports Grant of £17690. This funding (with £1805 carried forward from last year) has to be spent effectively and to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. We plan to use this funding:
To increase the engagement of pupils in active play at break and lunchtimes by providing play leaders and new playground markings which stimulate enjoyable activities.
To raise the profile of PE / Sports across the school community in order to encourage more pupils to make more active lifestyle choices.
Through CPD by professional coaches, to develop teachers’ confidence and skills for delivering high quality PE lessons.
To provide a wide range of sports opportunities outside PE lessons.
To increase the motivation and team spirit through healthy competition.
For example, we will be:
- Developing the playground to encourage more active play.
- Employing Specialist PE Coaches to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in specific areas of PE, whilst delivering high quality PE lessons to children.
- Increasing pupils' motivation and team spirit through a range of competitions within and between schools.
Details of our planned spend in 2019-20 will follow shortly.
