 Spring Weekly Reflections

Spring Week 11

This week Diamond class have been working from home. They have still been learning and completing a daily maths, English, spelling, PE and another curriculum area subject. Mr Lawrence has loved finding out what they have been doing and seeing pictures of them all working hard at home.

Spring Week 10

This week in Diamond class we have been looking at instruction writing and then having a go at writing our own to explain to someone how to brush their teeth.

In maths we have been continuing looking at fractions and how we can subtract fractions from whole amounts.

We also sang songs as a class that are in the charts. Mr Lawrence, Mrs Hembery and Mrs Norris where really impressed with our voices.

Spring Week 9

This week in English we have published our explanation texts ready to present to our parents at our celebration of learning.

In maths we have been looking at adding and subtracting fractions. It was easier than we were all expecting.

In PE we began putting together a gymnastics routine that we will be continuing to work on and share with the class.

Spring Week 8

This week Diamond class have been writing and editing our explanation texts on how animals teeth have adapted depending on their diet.

In maths we have been looking at fractions greater than one and counting in fractions. This has been trickier than we thought, but we persevered and everybody was able to count in fractions.

This week we began looking at the digestive system and where they are found in the body.

Spring Week 7

This week in Diamond class we have had our inspire session where the children showed off their programming skills to make their character move through a maze. The children really enjoyed this. Thank you to all the parents and family members that came, it was great to see you.

We have also started learning about fractions and began to identify equivalent fractions.

In PE we have also been busy with gymnastics and exploring some of the different positions we can use when coming up with our own routines and sharing them with the rest of the class.

Spring Week 6

This week in Diamond Class we have been planning and writing our 500 word stories for the BBC Radio 2 competition to encourage young authors.

The children also completed a maths investigation looking at our pattern spotting skills involving our times tables. The children really enjoyed this and were very good at talking about the patterns they were finding.

Spring Week 5

This week in Diamond class we have been continuing looking at our story writing by learning how to write character descriptions, planning and beginning to write our own stories.

In maths we have been looking at dividing 3 digit by 1 digit numbers involving remainders using the bus stop method.

In science we looked at the eggs that we had in the different drinks to find out what the sugar will do to our drinks. We were shocked at the way that the coke stained the egg a dark colour, lemonade made the shell of the egg rub off.

In PE we have been learning more dance moves from Rio. Mr Lawrence was really impressed with the effort that we have put in and what great dancers we all are.  If you would like to have a go at home, watch the video below:

Spring Week 4

This week we have carried out our science investigation to find out what the effects sugar has on our teeth. We are all very excited to find out the results.

In English this week we have been looking at writing stories and looking at what makes an effective scene description, then having a go at writing our own.

In maths we have been continuing with our multiplication and division work by learning to use the bus stop method to help us divide 2 digit number by 1.

We have also started our new PE topic for this term, dance.

Spring Week 3

This week in Diamond class we have been finishing writing our adverts, editing and improving them. We have also written them up in our neatest handwriting ready for our Celebration of Learning and to persuade people about the importance of keeping our teeth healthy.

In maths we have been multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers and have even started  to look at dividing 2 digit numbers by 1. Mr Lawrence and Mrs Hembery are both very impressed with how we have all tried really hard and been resilient in tackling the division questions.

In science this week we have talked about an experiment we will be carrying out in the coming weeks to investigate the effects that certain sugary drinks have on our teeth. Everyone looks forward to the results and sharing them at our Celebration of Learning.

Spring Week 2

This week in Diamond class we have been continuing our topic on teeth and digestion, by exploring the different types of teeth we have and their job.

In English we have been continuing our work on persuasive writing and even began to draft our advert on the importance of keeping our teeth clean.

We also kept with the theme of multiplication this week, learning how to multiply 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. We have also looked at partitioning numbers to help us solve trickier multiplication calculations.

In RE this week, we have been looking at the events of Good Friday so that we can learn why it is important to Christians next week.

Spring Week 1

This week in Diamond class we introduced our new class topic with a WOW morning where we looked at different teeth as created some observational drawings of these. We looked at how to improve our drawings and look at the importance of shape and detail with our drawings.

In English we have been looking at adverts and the techniques they use to persuade us to buy products. We have also been thinking about how we can use techniques to persuade others about the importance of dental hygiene.

We have also been looking at our 11 and 12 x table in Maths this week. We have been busy learning these and even looked at the division facts that are related to each of the times tables.

 Autumn Weekly Reflections

Autumn Week 15

This week in Diamond class we have been looking at character descriptions and have even been having a go at writing our own on a character from our whole class reading book 'How to train your dragon'.

In maths we have been understanding what it means to work systematically and have been solving a variety of problems using this skill. The children have really enjoyed getting stuck into some of these problems.

We also had our KS2 Christingle this week, and we all got to prepare a Christingle for the service. All the children really enjoyed sharing their knowledge of the Christingle and the Christmas story as well as showing their singing skills.

Autumn Week 14

This week in Diamond class we have been finishing off our work writing cinquain poems, which we have been looking at. We have written our own on a topic of our choice. Surprisingly Christmas was the most popular theme.

In maths we have been looking at using the bar model to help with our learning of times table and division facts. We have also been learning to balance calculations.

This week we also had our Celebration of Learning. The children really enjoyed teaching their parents all the wonderful skills they had been learning, but also haring the work they had produced during this term.

Autumn Week 13

In English Diamond class have been learning to write their own Diamante poems on the carnival and fireworks.

In maths we have been learning to multiply and divide by 1 and 0. We have also began to look at our 6 times table and how we can learn this.

Autumn Week 11

This week we have been finishing and editing our newspaper reports. We then typed these up so that they looked like newspaper articles and were ready to share with our parents.

This week we have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. We have been looking at how this can be done using a place value grid and exploring why it is not just about adding a 0 on the end.

Autumn Week 10

This week we have been writing up our newspaper reports and learning the skills that the children will need to complete, edit and improve their reports. We have spoken about speech and how we can include and accurately punctuate this.

We have also looked at drawing our own circuits in science using the correct symbols.

Autumn Week 8

In Diamond class we have been continuing our work on non-chronological reports and the children have been busy writing all about how carnival carts are made and the history of Bridgwater Carnival.

This Week in maths we have continued out adding and subtracting of four digit numbers. We have also looked at using trial and improvement to solve a variety of problems.
