Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

We are proud that our school is an inclusive school which caters for a wide range of children's needs as well as abilities. SEND is coordinated by Miss Williams. It is a leadership and managerial role and she works alongside class teachers and support staff to guide and oversee provision for pupils with an identified special educational need.

Parents can find information on Somerset's local offer at the following web page: Somerset Choices Familes - Somerset's Local Offer

We working towards being reaccredited Somerset's 'Dyslexia Friendly Award' are currently  and have been praised for our specific 1:1 programmes which are carefully monitored and evaluated. The recent Ofsted (June 2013) also praised the support provided for pupils with SEND: "Disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs make good progress from their starting points due to the targeted support they receive in lessons, and individually when they work with an adult outside the classroom. Some make excellent progress."

Differentiation in class has also been praised with all our staff providing stimulating and creative teaching to cater for the wide range of needs in each class.

We have good liaison with a range of school support services.  Our parent family support worker Mrs Turner, contributes to support a wide range of children and their families. A wide range of support sheets for families have been developed (see below) and Miss Williams is available every Monday afternoon to meet parents to discuss any SEND related issues.
